The beat continues for Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton, the seven-time Formula 1 champion, had no problems in Portugal on Sunday and won the F1 Grand Prix of Portugal in a convincing way against Red Bulls Max Verstappen and Hamilton’s Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
Hamilton started in second place behind pole sitter Bottas, fell back to third place after a rolling restart on lap 7 and finally overtook Verstappen on lap 11. Hamilton overtook Bottas on lap 20 of the 66-lap race and never took the lead.
Sergio Perez led one track in the middle of the race, but only because he was the last car to pit.
Hamilton’s last profit margin was a convincing 29.1 seconds over Verstappen and 33.5 seconds over Bottas. Both Verstappen and Bottas pitted on the last two laps to get fresh tires and a shot at the fastest lap of the race and the associated bonus point. Verstappen actually did the fastest lap of the 66th and final lap of the race, only to obliterate the performance of stewards who ruled Verstappen at Turn 14 on his final lap outside the track. Bottas received the fastest lap point to help Mercedes expand its lead in the F1 constructors’ championship to 18 points.

The 97th victory for Hamilton in Formula 1 and the 150th time since he started his run with Mercedes in 2013 that he has finished in the points. Only nine times during his time at Mercedes did he fail to break the top 10.
The battle for season points came even more in favor of Hamilton with his 25 points scored on Sunday. He now has 69 points, while Verstappen is second with 61 points and Lando Norris is third with 37 points. Bottas is fifth with 32 points.
Perez finished fourth in Portgual and Norris rounded out the top five.
