Unfortunately, according to his father, Dmitry Mazepin, a new problem has emerged for the young F1 driver. Apparently the driver is under pressure from the Russian military.

Mazepin Sr. spoke about the problem at the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg. He said the Russian military wanted the 22-year-old to do his one-year compulsory military service.

Unfortunately, the Haas F1 driver cannot step down as it is mandatory for all men over the age of 18.

“Nikita has 23 races to run this year and they tell him to join the army. You have to go to training camp, ”said Dmitry Mazepin.

The Haas F1 driver isn’t the only one who has had to do military service

F1 veteran Kimi Raikkonen can empathize for going through the same thing in his early racing days. The former corporal served 6 months in the army and his compatriot Valtteri Bottas was a Lance Corporal.

Whether Nikita Mazepin gets to finish the season or give up halfway is a whole different story. One thing is certain, the youngster will not be able to retire from service in the Bundeswehr.
