Nikita Mazepin may bring a healthy portion of the budget to the Haas team, but don’t be fooled that he doesn’t have the driving forces behind it too.
The Russian – the fourth to compete in F1 after Vitaly Petrov, Sergey Sirotkin and Daniil Kvyat – has an impressive résumé in the junior formula and finished second in the 2018 GP3 championship with four race wins.
And after taking the time to find his way in his first F2 season in 2019, he got his money’s worth in 2020 and clinched six podiums on the way to fifth place in the table – including two wins.
Haas boss Günther Steiner has described Mazepin as a “mature racing driver” and he will probably need all this maturity in 2021 when he drives for the American team in the top tier of motorsport.
