KANNAPOLIS, NC (WBTV) – From the Haas F1 Team: Uralkali Haas F1 Team driver Mick Schumacher, based in Kannapolis, ranked 15th at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza.

“A pretty exciting race for us in every respect,” said team principal Günther Steiner. “Of course we had another collision between the two drivers, but they cleared the air over it. What was said was said and they are good. We’re making progress on this side and hope we can keep it that way. I think our two guys have learned from the last few races, are now trying to keep going and trying to take on the suggestions we as a team give them and hopefully we will get less of it in the future, even if it happened today. If you are aware of that, that’s good, it is part of learning and luckily the car was not as badly damaged. “

Schumacher started from 18th place on Pirelli P Zero Yellow Medium tires and moved up to 15th place. Schumacher came on lap 24 of the 53-lap encounter for white hard tires, but lost on the restart when contact was made with team-mate Mazepin. Stewards found Mazepin guilty and imposed a five-second time penalty. Schumacher recovered to welcome the checkered flag in 15th place.

“Personally, I thought it was a good race,” said Schumacher. “I think we made the right strategic decisions and communication during the race was very good. As for the start of the race, there was a lot going on up front and with the safety car it got interesting. We had a good restart this time and were able to fight. Unfortunately, I suffered a small damage to the front wing, but on the whole we can be glad how we did it today. “

Mazepin started from 16th place on Medium, but took a place in a hectic first lap. He crossed the finish line on lap 25 with red soft tires, but changed his tactics a few laps later when the safety car was deployed and switched to hard rubber. After the collision with Schumacher, a heavy suspension in the first chicane made a third pit stop necessary. Mazepin picked up the soft mix again on lap 40, but unfortunately his race ended a few laps later due to an aggregate output.

“In my opinion, I had an aggregate failure – we just lost all energy,” said Mazepin. “I think it was dangerous for the whole unit to go forward and not fully recover, so the team said to stop the car immediately. With Mick he braked very early in Turn 4 and I just poked my nose there and obviously he had to take the turn and turn, so I’m sorry it happened. It was my fault, but it was a racing accident. It was obvious that I wasn’t happy about that and that it happened. Later I had a flat spot and a half wing plate was missing, we had to box for a pit stop and then the engine obviously said goodbye. “

Up front, McLaren ended a 3,213 day drought to claim the win courtesy of Daniel Ricciardo while teammate Lando Norris finished a 1-2 for the team. Valtteri Bottas of Mercedes finished third from the back of the field.

The Uralkali Haas F1 team will return to action at the Russian Grand Prix at the Sochi Autodrom from September 24th to 26th.
