Mazepin rates its own debut season: "Four out of five"

Perhaps the most talked about driver before the 2021 Formula 1 season was Nikita Mazepin. The Russian rookie came along Haas F1 thanks to a large investment from his father and was also scrutinized for his questionable behavior in a video that surfaced prior to his arrival. Expectations weren’t too high, but Mazepin showed a learning curve in its first season.

He is therefore more than satisfied with his debut season formula 1, which he rated “four out of five” stars despite his 21st place in the final ranking. The main reason he cites is that he persevered in difficult moments.

Those four stars come mostly out of persistence, according to Mazepin. “Some moments were tough, he admitted. When it comes to his adaptability, he’s realistic: with three out of five, he rates it as mediocre.

Given Haas’ decision not to develop the 2021 car at all, it is not surprising that the team has always been at the back. Still, Mazepin was consistently beaten by teammate Schumacher. In this respect, the Russian rookie has an advantage: the expectations of his team-mate are higher, and that means that Schumacher is also under pressure. Mazepin can therefore calmly develop further.
