Nikita Mazepin tries to bring his acclimatization to Formula 1 speeds “with a crowbar” to life.
That’s the colorful description of top Red Bull official Dr. Helmut Marko, who compared Haas driver Mazepin’s controversial 2021 with that of his rookie team-mate Mick Schumacher.
“There were a few moments when Mick made mistakes,” said Marko to Sport Bild.
“If you look at his career, it always took him two years to achieve top performance. In Formula 1, however, the previous learning phase seems to have been considerably faster for him.”
The Austrian said that was in stark “contrast to Mazepin”.
“Mick walked up to it sensibly while Mazepin tries to do it with a crowbar,” said Marko.
