Max Verstappen might have won the 2021 F1 drivers’ championship with Red Bull, but his thirst for jokes seems insatiable.
Verstappen has revealed that, among other things, he cheekily forecast a race win for Haas in the 2021 season.
A social media video published by F1 shows how the Red Bull driver selects Gunther Steiner’s outfit to see the checkered flag at one of 22 races.
Verstappen was obviously joking – he couldn’t even keep his face straight the entire conversation. In terms of the 2021 calendar, however, it was not far off. Would a Haas win in a season where a Williams finished P2 (albeit in a rain-scarred Spa-Francorchamps) have been so incredible?
When asked about his other two predictions for the season, the Dutchman said:
“I’ve written six race wins and a good amount of gin and tonic. I’ve had more than six race wins and I had a good amount of gin and tonic. So it’s not that bad. It’s a good prediction.”
Max Verstappen did more than enough to get a score of two out of three, keeping up with his stellar record on the track in 2021.
That season he won 10 of 22 races, putting his total number of race wins since the beginning of his F1 career.
He also finished 2021 with a total of 18 podium places, setting a new F1 record. He is now alone at the top, followed shortly by Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, all of whom have 17.
Max Verstappen’s triumph ‘first of many’, says Gerhard Berger
The dust must have settled with Max Verstappen’s first driver’s world title, but he is already being touted for greater deeds.
Former Austrian Formula 1 driver Gerhard Berger believes that Verstappen’s triumph over seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton is the first of many for the 24-year-old Dutchman.
When asked about Red Bull’s first driver world champion since the illustrious Sebastian Vettel, the 62-year-old Austrian told ServusTV:
“He will be world champion many more times.”
Max’s father Jos Verstappen has similar hopes for his son.

The talent and potential of Max Verstappen justify such hopes. He is the fourth youngest world champion in the history of F1 and has a long career ahead of him. First and foremost, however, is his title defense in 2022.
