“Hopefully it will make the car better”

"Hopefully it will make the car better"

The Williams car is struggling immensely with the wind this season, as many people had predicted before the season opener in Bahrain. This is reflected in the Constructors’ Championship, where the British team is behind Haas F1 and currently sits at the bottom of the table. The structures and modifications on the bargeboards were carried out some time ago, but could not be tested properly in Baku because the wind was not enough.

Dave Robson, Head of Vehicle Performance at Williams, told Autosports.com that the upcoming Triple Header will provide more information on the changes. In Baku this was not possible due to the lack of wind. “I think the shelter helps because you get a Monaco-like tunneling of the air rather than the big gusts of cross wind that you get at Silverstone, for example. I think we’ll learn more from Paul Ricard about where it’s likely to be windy. “Robson is so curious because Williams made so many adjustments.

“There are a number of changes to George Russell’s car around the bargeboard that we hope should improve this side of the car,” continued the Briton. “But to be honest, we couldn’t really judge how well it worked in Baku this Friday. So I think the big test will be the next three or four races.”

Robson satisfied with current units

George Russell had to revert to an earlier power unit during FP3 in Baku when problems were discovered. Russell would eventually end Q2 with this old unit. Robson is satisfied with the current units and also knows that there were some problems with them early on.

“You do so little with the aggregates, it’s essentially just a new version of the same thing, more or less. The degradation of these aggregates is impressively low nowadays. It’s not like the old days when there were obvious deteriorations. ”“ Regardless, Robson and Williams generally hope that the triple header modifications can be properly tested in France and Austria.
