“He has a contract with Ferrari” – Haas team boss Günther Steiner explains the complication of binding Mick Schumacher for the 2022 season.
Mick Schumacher still has to sign with Haas for 2022, he has confirmed. The German rookie is currently focused on his performance on the track and wants to wait until the summer break to take a call.
As a cadet of the Ferrari Driver Academy, he has the option to continue with Haas or possibly join Alfa Romeo, Ferrari’s partner team.
“We have the summer shutdown soon and then I’ll really be full of it and concentrate on it.”

Günther Steiner explains three-way delay
Haas boss Günther Steiner was confident that the deal would eventually come about. He justified the delay with the participation of Ferrari as a shareholder in Schumacher.
“There are a couple of things that just need to be sorted out. It’s obviously a three-way deal because he has a deal with Ferrari. There have to be a couple of Ts crossed and a couple of I’s and then we’ll get there. “
“Mick is right when he says it’s not signed, but there is an agreement. But because of the three ways it is always more difficult than a simple one-to-one contract. “
Haas is pointless at the moment and is in last place in the constructors’ championship. They have shifted their focus to the 2022 season when a horde of new regulations will come into play, including a new concept for the cars.
