Haas F1 driver Nikita Mazepin made an unforgettable debut in Bahrain. The Russian’s race barely took a couple of corners before he turned the car and drove into the barriers. With a host of critics on its back, this performance has only further damaged its reputation.
Even a former F2 rival cast some shadow over the Haas driver. However, Haas team boss Günther Steiner showed that Mazepin was extremely angry with himself. But the German said that Nikita is looking for another attempt in Imola.
Steiner said, “Of course what happened is not ideal, but it did. He’s pretty beaten up, but he’s ready to go again.
“I just told him to keep his head up and move on.”

Steiner is patient with the rookie driver, however. After all, the Haas VF21 is certainly not an ideal car to drive, as evidenced by the many twists that both Mazepin and his teammate Mick Schumacher made in Bahrain. As the expected performance of the car is also low, Steiner doesn’t want to blame his rookie drivers for the bad result at the season opener.
Haas team boss wasn’t surprised how the race went for Nikita Mazepin
Steiner has acquitted Mazepin of any wrongdoing in Bahrain. Instead, he attributed the Russian’s spin to the car being difficult to handle and Mazepin a person who, like everyone else, tries to push the envelope on the debut to impress.

He said, “Nikita put a little more pressure on, but I think that’s his character for more than anything. They try to find the limit and sometimes go beyond it.
“I’m not really surprised because you are trying to do the best you can and of course our car is not easy to drive. I think he’s one of those guys. Well, he’s just trying very hard. “
That was anything but the ideal start for the American team. But to be honest, nobody expected them to do better. 2021 will be a long and rough year for them. Will there be joy along the way? Maybe it’s best not to be overly optimistic.
