There’s nothing like a heated battle for 13th place to get the best, or sometimes the worst, out of a Formula 1 driver.

Schumacher said riding bike to bike with a rival was a matter of trust and at the moment Schumacher doesn’t have much faith in Mazepin.

“You have to race with him,” said Schumcher today in a video press conference ahead of the F1 French Grand Prix on Sunday. “I think that trust will be built and can be rebuilt with certainty. Obviously, at the moment I don’t really know what to expect from him in a 1-on-1. In the end, I’m sure that after the conversation, The one we’ve run with the team should be anything to rebuild that trust, we’re all racing drivers so I’m sure we can do it.

Stewards declined to further investigate the incident in Baku.

“I think if it happens again there will probably be more severe consequences,” said Schumacher. “But even since it was an incident between team-mates, it is more likely to be held internally. I think if it happens again it will surely be addressed to the commissioners and the race director.”

Mazepin, speaking in a separate videoconference today, did not apologize for the incident.

“I thought he would go for the inside line and he went for the outside line and when I saw that he had committed to it I ducked away,” said Mazepin. “Because in the end we are not fighting for points and the team’s result is paramount.

“I think we have a positive atmosphere, if I can call it that, in the team and it has been that way since day one and it continues to be that way. We are both young drivers who push the envelope, you can have a but As I said at the beginning, as long as both cars come back intact, I think that’s okay with the team boss. “

The 13th and 14th places in Baku were the best so far for the two drivers in their rookie season with Haas. Schumacher took 13th place on the home stretch.

“Of course there was a situation on the straight that has been resolved and we cleaned the air,” said Haas team boss Günther Steiner after the race in Baku. “There was some misunderstanding, but we’re fine and everyone is moving on.”
