Haas F1 boss Steiner does not agree with Ferrari counterpart over controversial cost ceiling

Nikita Mazepin's mistakes always hurt the budget of the Haas F1 team: Steiner

One of the most talked about aspects of the current F1 season is the new cost cap. This limits each team to a budget of $ 145 million for the entire season. Recently, Red Bull and Ferrari challenged the cost cap after huge sums of damage costs were incurred in recent races.

At Silverstone, title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen drove hard on the first lap. However, the contact between the two cars in the Copse corner ended the Dutchman’s race. To make matters worse, Red Bull announced it cost $ 1.8 million to repair the car.

Ferrari, on the other hand, saw Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz involved in a few falls. The most prominent is the Monaco Grand Prix, where Leclerc clinched pole despite a crash in the final seconds of Q3. Overall, Binotto claimed that the Italian outfit had damage costs of 2.5 million euros.

Binotto admitted that the cost cap needs to be reviewed as the teams incur costs when they are not at fault. He said: “I think that is certainly an important point because I mentioned 2.5 million euros to show that the overall damage can be significant.

“I think there are certainly no obvious solutions, but it is something that we will no doubt be discussing with the FIA, Formula 1 and the teams in the coming weeks to possibly address it to see if there is a solution for the future. “

However, Haas team boss Steiner gave a different opinion than Binotto and admitted that there should be no changes. He said: “I think we have to live with it, we have to have a budget for it,” said Steiner. “We have to be flexible enough”

Steiner: That’s part of racing

Although Steiner disagreed with Binotto, he admitted that crashes are part of racing and the cost cap should not allow any further adjustments.

“I think it’s part of racing and will be part of how much risk you take in a race and whatever you do,” said Steiner. “I think it’s part of the race against the accidents. You can’t adjust the budget or regulation how many crashes you have because I feel like no change is needed in this case. “

While F1 is now on its summer break, various teams will try to recover at the Belgian Grand Prix. However, with some teams incurring high damage costs, their progress remains to be seen later this season.
