Haas team boss Günther Steiner is confident that F1’s budget cap will “balance out” the playing field as the sport enters a new aerodynamic era.
A strict cost cap of $ 145 million has been put in place for all teams for the 2021 season, and while some teams have not yet reached this spending level, it has cut spending on some of the sport’s big funders.

Ahead of the launch of the new spec cars next year, Steiner believes the cap and other constraints will create a more even stance in the paddock.
When asked about his expectations for 2022, Steiner replied: “I think the budget ceiling certainly has a lot to do with it.
“If there wasn’t a budget limit, the big teams would have developed this year’s car and next year in parallel.
“I think it’s a combination. Even her runs in the wind tunnel. They are limited and the CFD calculation time is limited so I think the field of play is generally more balanced.
“But we also knew that there was no point investing in this car because Auto 19 was not good.
“Last year we stopped development completely, so investing a lot – not just in money, but also in people – is not something you want to do, because even if you do a good job, you are still in the lower midfield the maximum.
“We have decided to go full speed next year, so hopefully it will pay off.”
After deciding against further development last year, Steiner admitted the challenges associated with reintegrating dormant departments.
“Of course we had a slightly slower start to development at the beginning of the season because we had to restart many departments,” he explained.
“But now we’re at a good pace with good people so I’m pretty confident that we can get back to midfield.
“You have to see how far up you are and rely on the others for how good they are. So I hope they are not very good. It will be a lot easier. “
