After many, many years of struggle, Williams F1 finally opened its points record with double top 10 finishes at the Hungarian GP and finished eighth on the constructors list. Haas, who kept them company downstairs, sees no imminent race to catch up. And in Günther Steiner’s own words, “your chances are very, very slim”.

Williams wasn’t expecting points for the race, but her luck turned. Could Haas have been able to do the same?
The Italian believes Haas wouldn’t get many points even in the same position. “That’s why I always say you have to try to do your best. They were there when there were points to be won and they did. But I wouldn’t bet that we got more points than they did. “

Steiner had tried to push the two rookies further than the bottom two. Mazepin’s DNF resulted in Schumacher being the solo Haas on the track. Regardless of the Russian’s presence on the track, Steiner considers points to be unreachable. He said: “It would have been difficult for me to score points even without the accident.”
The previous season experience of the American team was only lapped by half of the starting grid. Steiner’s low expectations of the team result from poor qualifying performances and the lack of experience of the two drivers.
Haas’ weekend in Hungary
Haas had a very pleasant experience on the Hungaroring. Although the FP sessions brought a crash and a slow pace, Sunday was worth looking forward to. After the incident in turn one, Mick Schumacher restarted on P10. Mazepin did not come out on the track as a pit lane collision with Raikkonen left Haas in his garage.
The car was battling Red Bull when Schumacher defended Verstappen for 10 laps. The paddock was significantly impressed by the German’s time on the track.

Although Mick did not finish within the points, he got an insight into the battle with experienced drivers on the track. Mazepin unfortunately missed it. That also frustrated Steiner. “The worst part is that Nikita missed another race where he can learn a lot. This is my biggest concern right now. There are times when you cannot fix these things and I hope we get some lessons. “
With only 12 races left, will Haas score points? The American team has been dwindling since its peak in 2018. After just three points in 2020, the rest of the season could look bleak for the team.
