Romain Grosjean’s wish for a final foray in a Formula 1 car seems to be fulfilled with the news that he’s got a seat with a mysterious F1 team.
The Frenchman was caught in a terrible fall during the Bahrain Grand Prix, just weeks before he was told he would run out of seats in 2021. That meant he was forced to miss the final two races of the season, with the fall being his final memory in F1.
That prompted Grosjean to publicly campaign for one final foray in an F1 car before announcing his career in the top flight.
“If I don’t [race in Abu Dhabi]I’ll call every single Formula 1 team and see if someone would offer me a private test in January to get back in the car and do 10, 15 laps for myself, ”he said.
That caught the attention of Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, who said he was open to the idea.
While it is not known if Mercedes is the team Grosjean has made a seat adjustment with, the 34-year-old, who will be driving in IndyCar this year, hinted at it during a livestream.
“I’ve been on the phone with Toto and we’re finalizing the plan,” he said.
It has now been revealed that Grosjean’s seat fixation has been pushed forward, as the executive producer of the Netflix Drive To Survive documentary series revealed.
“We filmed Grosjean today for a seat adjustment,” said James Gay-Rees on the In The Fast Lane podcast. “He has one last lap with a team.”
If the test is done with Mercedes, it will likely take place at the Silverstone circuit and will take place in a car that is a few years old.
