Günther Steiner: “Dirty laundry is done in-house” at Haas

Günther Steiner: "Dirty laundry is done in-house" at Haas

After criticizing his dealings with Mick Schumacher, Günther Steiner insisted that “dirty laundry is done internally” at Haas.

The Formula 1 rookie driver was defended by his uncle Ralf after the team boss talked about the number of costly accidents that are eating up the Haas budget.

Schumacher was responsible for most of the recent incidents, particularly in Monaco, France and Hungary. Steiner said: “Mick has had some big ones in the last five races. These accidents are pretty serious. It’s a lot of money and for no good reason. “

Ralf wasn’t happy that his nephew was called that in public. He said he was “very disappointed” with these comments, pointing out that Mick had apologized and that “if anything, you do it internally, not externally”.

The 46-year-old ex-F1 driver added, “If you look at it that way, we might as well go public [with this] – Haas has been lagging for three years. What does he do as a team boss? You don’t talk about it in public. “

Steiner, who was preceded by an uncompromising reputation, has now denied that he washes dirty laundry in public, but says that outsiders won’t tell him how to run the Haas team either.

“I do my things the way I do them,” said the 56-year-old Italian, quoted by Motorsport.com.

“I do things the way I see fit. I wasn’t talking badly about Mick at all. I just said it was going to be too much.

“There have been a lot of accidents recently. It’s unnecessary, it doesn’t help anyone. That’s all I said But here, too, I run the house the way I want it.

“I would not criticize publicly. You do not do that. You tell it internally. Dirty laundry is washed internally. “

It was the tough first half of the season that Haas had fully anticipated as they focused all their development on next year’s car, but Schumacher’s 12.

“There wasn’t a lot of negativity,” Steiner said. “But if there is something negative, we have to talk about it.

“We can’t say, ‘Oh, everything is fine, everything is great’, because then it gets really bad at some point.

“Formula 1 is a competitive sport and if you are not honest with yourself, you will never be successful here.”
