FP3: Hamilton is in the lead, Mick in the barrier

After Max Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas had led the sessions on Friday, it was Lewis Hamilton who was fastest in the final practice session on Saturday for the Hungarian GP.

He scored a 1: 16.289 in a session in which a rookie once again brought out the red flags, this time it was Mick Schumacher.

During the last training session on Saturday on the Hungaroring, the drivers were literally sitting in the hot seat again, with a track temperature of over 50 ° C and rising.

Yuki Tsunoda, who crashed his AlphaTauri on Friday morning, was one of the first to fail. The Japanese rookie wanted to make up for lost time on the track as he missed most of the second session.

He was joined by Carlos Sainz, the Spaniard’s SF21, which was fitted with a new engine overnight, with Ferrari explaining that “some parameters in the data were unsatisfactory”.

He put a 1: 19.443 on the medium-sized Pirellis to take the lead after the first 10 minutes. Sainz, who reported that his brakes were “a little bad”, increased his pace to 1: 18.832.

With Planet Sport Bet you can bet that Valtteri Bottas will be on pole at the Hungarian Grand Prix!

He was overtaken by Lewis Hamilton, the Mercedes driver, who scored a ninth Hungarian GP victory on the soft tires with a time of 1: 18.587.

After a hot lap, he pitted again and reported that “my right tire has a pin”. His mechanics took it out and sent him out again, with the Briton shooting almost four-tenths of his previous best.

Max Verstappen ventured out earlier in this usual Saturday Red Bull run, easily the fastest with 1: 17.510 on the soft tires. He wasn’t P1 for long, Valtteri Bottas crossed the finish line with a 1: 17,428 to take the lead.

Sergio Perez was fourth behind Hamilton, with Pierre Gasly the fastest driver not driving for Mercedes or Red Bull, the AlphaTauri driver ahead of the Ferraris.

Nicholas Latifi was eighth in the middle of the session, though he had a bit of a problem with Williams letting him know his left mirror had cracked.

Because Ferrari wanted to do some aero tests, Charles Leclerc admitted that he had made a mistake – “actually I’m the stupid one, I don’t know the corner numbers” – when he was told to drive at a constant pace in certain corners, but it did it in the wrong.

When the track temperature rose to 57 ° C, Lando Norris put on a new set of soft tires and jumped into third place. Hamilton also left the pits, but drove back in without a hot lap when Mick Schumacher picked up the red flags.

The Haas rookie lost in the fast right turn in Turn 11, his left side of the vehicle crashed into the guardrail. He sounded excited but otherwise okay. “I know what that means,” he added, the driver probably from qualifying.

The action continued with nine minutes on the clock, a track temperature of 51 ° C and a flood of soft tires in preparation for qualifying.

Verstappen was the fastest and Hamilton was even faster. A 1: 16,826 for the Mercedes driver, 0.088 seconds ahead of his title rival. Bottas was third, 0.229 seconds back.

Alfa Romeo and Antonio Giovinazzi will have trouble with the stewards, the driver got Lance Stroll in the way with the wing construction contract for the Alfa with the right rear tire of the Aston Martin.
