Ilott drove for Alfa during a test last December
Callum Ilott from Britain has joined Alfa Romeo as the second reserve driver.
Ilott will share reserve driver duties with Robert Kubica if the Pole is unavailable due to his obligations in other racing categories.
Ilott, a member of the Ferrari Drivers Academy, will take part in some initial training sessions in 2021, starting with the Portuguese Grand Prix this weekend.
Alfa Romeo team principal Frederic Vasseur said 22-year-old Ilott was “one of the most talented to come through the ranks”.
Ilott, runner-up for the new Haas F1 driver Mick Schumacher in Formula 2 in 2020, is also Ferrari’s test driver this year and drives a Ferrari 488 GT3 in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup.
Ilott said: “The two (test) sessions I’ve had with the team over the past two years have been extremely useful in getting used to the way a Formula One team works and I’m confident I can get into can take the first step in my new role as one of the reserve drivers at Alfa Romeo Racing.
“I can’t wait to sit in the car and help the team keep making progress.”
