“We knew it was going to be tough and I think because there wasn’t any real chaos, the result we drove today was realistic anyway,” said Schumacher. “We learned a lot again, we learned how to be competitive at the start of the race and we just have to analyze how we can do it even better.

“Overall, it was a very positive weekend. There is no reason for me to be sad because I’m not in the championship fight, so all the best from this weekend – I’ll take it – and I’ll leave everything bad behind and learn from it. “

“I drove a clean race out there” – Nikita Mazepin

Teammate Nikita Mazepin finished twentieth and last in Turkey, but was happy to make it through the tricky race without mistakes in difficult conditions.

The Russian admitted that the race was an odd race as the track didn’t completely dry off, which meant he could learn a lot about running on the intermediate tire and the experience was crucial in developing his skills.

“The race organizers have done a great job since last year to improve the conditions for the drivers,” said Mazepin. “From my side, it was pure pleasure to be here all weekend.

“I drove a clean race out there, had no problems on the first lap and did as well as I could. Unfortunately, the conditions today were very strange as the track never really dried out.

“I didn’t think that the intermediate tires would take time to slick and give us good times. These conditions are priceless because as difficult as they are to drive, they are very useful. ”
