Last weekend we reported that Ferrari is restoring its first winning Formula 1 car, the 375, for an exhibition at the British Grand Prix to celebrate 70 years since that first win in 1951. Now Ferrari has released the video of this exhibition with none other than their own Charles Leclerc at the wheel.
The 375 is powered by a 4.5-liter V12 with around 350 PS (355 PS / 261 kW) and weighs only 720 kg. However, this is a far cry from today’s Formula 1 cars, which weigh about the same but produce more than 1,000 PS (1,014 PS / 746 kW) from their hybrid V6 engines. That just goes to show how far the technology has advanced over the past 70 years.

One thing the modern F1 cars don’t have, however, is the 375’s glorious V12 exhaust sound that you can hear as Leclerc wrestles the car around the circuit. In addition, as Marc Gené explains later in the video, the car’s gas pedal is strangely in the middle of the footwell and the brake is on the right. Pair that with a proper 4-speed manual transmission and you begin to understand how different the challenges faced by drivers of this era are from those of today.
The last time this anniversary car was brought out at Silverstone was in 2011 with Fernando Alonso at the wheel, and he won the British Grand Prix that weekend. Interestingly, Leclerc faced almost the same fate last weekend as, after restarting after the crash of Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton, he led the race until lap 50 out of 52, where he was eventually overtaken by Hamilton. Still, you can watch him pilot the Ferrari 375 himself in the video below.
