Thrustmaster SF1000 Formula 1 racing wheel review

Thrustmaster SF1000 Formula 1 racing wheel review

Having a steering wheel for your F1 game is well and good, but do you have a real F1 steering wheel? Even the best F1-style bikes weren’t quite right. We now have a new benchmark, as I’ll explain in my Thrustmaster SF1000 review.

This is not for the common gamer. You can find wheel and pedal sets for under $ 400 if you want, good brands, great performance. The Thrustmaster SF1000 costs $ 599 – and is an add-on. You will need an existing Thustmaster T-Series wheelbase and pedals to get it going.

We paired this Thrustmaster SF1000 with the TS-XW servo base which will bring you $ 1,199, and we’ve also pimped the pedals and added the Thrustmaster T-LCM set which gives them an even more realistic feel.

So we’re down over $ 2,000 with no regrets.

Out of the box you get an amazing feeling of value, precision and production from the Thrustmaster SF1000 wheel.

The front of the steering wheel is made of real carbon fiber and has the same buttons and dials as the current 2020 Ferrari F1 car.

Every dial rotates, every push of a button, none of which is on display.

However, there are limited customizations available with an Xbox. In reality, there are as many customizable settings as there are on an Xbox controller. However, because of the layout, you get a more personalized experience when you pair your DRS or other buttons.

Setting up the Thrustmaster SF1000 for Xbox

This actually wasn’t easy, I’ll describe the process in a separate post for those interested, but in short, you need to do firmware upgrades on your base and steering wheel and learn how to set up a UDP transmission in the F1 Game 2020. Once I knew that, it was a breeze.

Optional rocker switches

If you want to delve deeper into the bank, there is a set of Thrustmaster T-Chrono paddles that you can swap out on the SF1000.

They can be exchanged with four simple screws and offer a faster switching experience, an easier playing feel, but still the same amazingly high quality.

Thrustmaster SF1000 screen data

The amount of information that can be displayed on the wheel is staggering. About 69 pieces of information on tire wear, number of laps, race position, lap time and of course gear selection in a clear 4.3-inch display.

There are three standard info screens, each with sub-options for viewing. These are switched via the rotary knobs on the wheel on both sides of the large Ferrari dial in the middle.

At the top of the wheel in your eye line there are 15 LEDs for engine speed and marshals. These are bright, clear and offer the best switching experience I’ve seen on a SIM wheel.

The Thrustmaster SF1000 overall

Look, on a PC I’m sure this is taken to the next level again with fully customizable controls. But for the average gamer like me with money to burn, this is the ultimate showpiece.

It’s a real Ferrari F1 wheel, but it also works and shows real-time data. Breathtaking.

As expected, it is also comfortable to use when driving a car.
