This lightly used 2021 Ferrari F1 simulator will set you back $55,000

Buying an F1 single seater with its powertrain is a seven-figure affair, while even static mockups sell for six figures. So what’s the most affordable way to put a full-size F1 car in your living room while still being usable? The answer is a simulator like the model pictured, currently listed on eBay for £40,000 ($54,280).

While anyone can enjoy the great graphics of an F1 game from their PC or console without spending a small fortune, a true sit-down car takes the experience to another level. Bucket seats, pedals and road bike accessories are great, but they’ll never beat squeezing into the monocoque structure in your full F1 outfit – or even your pyjamas.

The simulator is called Ferrari F8 Formula 1 and was built in 2021. This means that both the design and the gaming hardware are fairly modern, even if the price tag sounds steep for what is essentially an oversized and realistic gaming controller.

Although the listing doesn’t give any details on the machine’s specs, we can see a three-screen layout for a panoramic view of the track, a proper F1 steering wheel with knobs and buttons, a keyboard and a desktop PC on the right of the single seater. At this price, we’d expect an impressive hardware setup, although you can always upgrade it with the latest and greatest.

The simulator is currently kept in a garage along with a nice collection of sports cars and supercars from McLaren, Porsche, Mercedes-AMG and other car manufacturers. However, we reckon that whoever buys it will likely place it as a centerpiece in a living room or playroom that is likely to gather many of their friends over for a visit.

The £40,000 ($54,280) price tag is definitely a stretch, as that kind of money could buy you a proper sports sedan or hot hatchback. A cheaper alternative for F1 fans would be to visit the Ferrari Museum in Maranello or Modena and use the official F1 simulator, which costs €25 for a full seven-minute race. This one doesn’t have the full body, aerodynamics and wheels of a single-seater, but it does look fairly realistic from the driver’s seat – although we suspect it won’t beat the $55,000 simulator, assuming you can afford it.
