McLaren driver Lando Norris is currently by far the most formidable driver in F1. He is currently fourth in the drivers’ standings with 86 points. He is also the only driver on the grid to have finished in the points in every race this season.

However, the Briton does not feel that he has achieved everything he wants; Norris wants to beat his former teammate Carlos Sainz.

Carlos Sainz drove two seasons for McLaren, from 2019 to 2020. Together with Norris, he was able to lead the Woking team to 3rd place in the constructors’ championship last year.

While they had (and still do) a reasonably healthy relationship, more of a bromance, the Spanish driver managed to beat Norris in their inter-team rivalry. However, the Brit is determined to punch one over his buddy this time around.

We get along and we’ve done it since we were teammates in ’19: Norris
According to Racer, Norris stated that Carlos is the driver he wants to beat on the track, even though the two are still good friends. He actually wants to leave the Spaniard behind in golf too!

“We’re still good friends, still chatting every now and then and making jokes and such. We get along and we’ve done it since we were teammates in ’19.
“Of course, when we’re on the track, I probably don’t want to beat anyone more than Carlos. And probably him for me, ”said Norris.
Lando also mentioned that he and McLaren would both like to win against Ferrari and Sainz. “He wants to beat McLaren too, and we want to beat Ferrari as well. It’s part of the challenge, but I still have respect for all the drivers.
“And I still have some fellow drivers who are going to be up against and he’s one of them, so we could play golf (between races).” said Norris.

Can Lando Norris sneak into the top 3 at the Austrian Grand Prix?
McLaren fought with Ferrari for third place in the constructors’ title this season. Norris has shown consistent performance throughout the season and ideally would like to take another podium this season to move further away from Ferrari and Sainz in the championship.
The Styrian Grand Prix was a tough race for the young Brit when he qualified third and fifth in the race. After being on the same track for the Austrian Grand Prix this weekend, he would like to make it into the top 5 again this season.
