Red Bull has “developments in the pipeline” for Imola to improve the 2021 F1 car

Red Bull has "developments in the pipeline" for Imola to improve the 2021 F1 car

In time for the next Formula 1 race in Imola, Red Bull will “put as much power as possible on the car” in order to improve its RB16B.

The Milton Keynes-based team had a strong start to the season at the Bahrain Grand Prix. Max Verstappen took the dominant pole position before being narrowly beaten to victory by Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton.

While its 2021 challenger was ahead on the season opening lap, that hasn’t stopped Red Bull from pushing a new development spurt on the three-week break between races to get more power out of their updated car.

“We have some developments in the pipeline for Imola, more for subsequent races, so it’s a two-pronged battle now,” said Red Bull’s chief engineer Paul Monaghan.

“We have to put this car on the ground and run and not give each other hiccups. We will bring as much power as possible from Imola to the car.

“Our fate is in our control and we cannot influence what Mercedes, McLaren, Ferrari and everyone else want to do. So we have to stay focused. “

Despite a successful start to 2021, Mercedes is firmly convinced that it currently has no strengths over Red Bull this year.

With 22 races left in F1’s longest season, Red Bull is aware that it cannot afford to be complacent when it comes to successfully dethroning Mercedes and winning its first world title since 2013.

“We have identified a few areas where the car can be improved and we are focusing on these,” said Monaghan. “We can’t influence what the others are doing, so we have to develop it, we have to make it bulletproof.

“We have to give Max and Checo a car that they can drive as fast as possible in Imola and Portugal, as well as in Spain and Monaco and everywhere we go. It’s not just about going to Imola and taking a win on the board to say, “Oh, we’re world champions.”

“It won’t happen. It’s going to be a long battle for a long season and it won’t be won or lost here [in Bahrain].

“There is a sense of disappointment in the garage that everyone feels, but we have a fast car, we have a fantastic pair of drivers and a good team. Everyone is aware that we will be challenging all the way through. “
