BMS Scuderia Italia is an Italian racing team that made the leap from the Italian Rally Championship and World Touring Car Championship to F1 in 1988. It was a midfield team that made no mistakes but has been using Ford and Judd engines for four years and partnered with Ferrari for a stronger season. It was not. The Dallara 192 in the hands of JJ Letho and Pierluigi Martina scored just two points, with two finished sixth, courtesy of Martini.
Fast forward to today, and how fast the 192 was doesn’t matter. Because listen to it. The engine is a Ferrari Tipo 037, a 3.5-liter V12 with a naturally aspirated engine and 720 hp (530 kW). And that was in the early 1990s. Power was transmitted via a six-speed manual transmission. Splendid.
How for this car? Well it was the 1992 scorer, chassis 026, but when it retired from racing it only ran a couple of times. Until it was bought in 2017 by a British man with a clearly very strong eardrum. Whoever you are, thank you a million times.
