Lewis Hamilton shocks he has never driven for Ferrari in his F1 career and admits "it wasn't really possible"

LEWIS HAMILTON has admitted his surprise at never switching to Ferrari.

As the biggest name in Formula 1 over the decades, the Scuderia has previously employed legends such as Michael Schumacher, Juan Manuel Fangio and Fernando Alonso.

But British star Hamilton has never stepped into the famous red jumpsuit and was nowhere near it.

Links popped up last year, but the legend who recently fueled retirement talks after missing out on Max Verstappen’s F1 title last month remains under contract with Mercedes until the end of 2023 and has a jump to jumping horse as a “never” denotes really possible ”.

Speaking to Sky Italia in September via GPToday, he said: “When I come to Monza and see the fans for years, I hear them say, ‘Come to Ferrari!’

“It warms my heart, but it’s pretty amazing that I’ve never driven for Ferrari after so many years.

“Because it is a dream for everyone, a goal to be achieved.

“It was never really possible and I will never know exactly why.

“I wish them the best and in the near future I just have to stop them from winning the World Cup instead [laughs].

“I have a couple of Ferraris at home that I can drive, but not the F1 Ferrari.”

Hamilton was signed to McLaren from an early age and drove with the British team for six years, winning the world title in 2008.

McLaren’s demise coincided with old teammate Fernando Alonso’s move to Ferrari, and their fiery relationship was not in sight.

In 2013 he replaced Michael Schumacher at Mercedes and is now hopefully fighting for the eighth F1 title record.
