Alfa Romeo is known to replace Giovinazzi for next season as a number of drivers will partner with Mercedes’ new Valtteri Bottas.
Alpine junior and F2 title contender Guanyu Zhou is believed to lead the hunt for the seat, but the team has not yet made a decision.
Giovinazzi has reached Q3 in two of the last three Grand Prix and was P7 on the grid at the races in Zandvoort and Monza. But he hasn’t scored any points since his tenth place in Monaco at the end of May.
When asked by Autosport if he had thought about other options in case he lost his Alfa Romeo seat in 2022, Giovinazzi said he wasn’t thinking about alternatives yet and was fully focused on keeping his drive.
“To be honest, I want to concentrate on keeping this place in Formula 1 for the time being,” said Giovinazzi.
“Then in the worst case scenario I would start thinking about next year. But right now I just want to focus on my job here in F1 and try to keep my place.”
Unsure of a timetable for a decision by Alfa Romeo about his future, Giovinazzi said it was “not a question for me” but one for his team principal Frederic Vasseur.
“The only thing I can do is just drive and get more points and I hope that’s enough,” said Giovinazzi.

Giovinazzi made his F1 debut with the team in the previous Sauber garb in 2017 and represented the injured Pascal Wehrlein in the first two races of the season.
The Italian then returned full-time to the team in early 2019, aided by his affiliation with Ferrari, who was in control of one of the seats on the team.
But Ferrari no longer has a say in the second Alfa Romeo seat, as the manufacturer’s F1 boss Mattia Binotto admits in Monza that he “cannot influence the team decision”.
Regarding alternative options for Giovinazzi within the Ferrari racing family for next year, Binotto said this had not been discussed.
“I think a lot will depend on his will and what Antonio’s real interests are for the future,” said Binotto.
“But I think the first step is definitely trying to find a place and a seat for him in Formula 1, and that’s what we’re concentrating on at the moment.”
