Ferrari F1 boss makes a big revelation amid the hype about the 2022 car – “The current car was never really developed”

GP Turkey 2021: Why isn't Mattia Binotto with Ferrari F1 in Istanbul Park?

2021 was certainly a season of good fortune for 2007 Formula 1 world champion Ferrari. The Scuderia suffered an unfortunate drop in performance in 2020, but the revitalization phase was pretty exceptional as both drivers frequently took points and podiums to help the team achieve their first Top 3 Constructors result since 2019.

Of course, the Monza engine update is indeed one of the main reasons for Ferrari’s resurgence. So, from a viewer’s point of view, it might look like Ferrari decided to bring in the update to challenge McLaren.

However, this is not the case, according to Ferrari Formula 1 boss Mattia Binotto. The Italian expected that the development around SF21 would end within a few racing weekends of this season. And since then, the entire Ferrari crew has been keeping an eye on the 2022 project.

“But the engine was geared towards 2022, so all our efforts since the beginning of our season have always been focused on the 2022 car and we have never compromised it.”

Binotto happy with P3 in the constructors’ championship

“Of course the championship is not over yet. There are still two races left and we’re really focusing on doing our best in the last two. But when I look at where we were last year, there is no doubt that we made the most of the current regulations, ”he said.
