Charles Leclerc versus F1 legend Gilles Villeneuve and Michael Schumacher from Ferrari Boss

Binotto confirms that Charles Leclerc did not have a Ferrari team radio during the Imola F1 restart

In the headlines of the dramatic rivalry at the top of the table in 2021, many may not realize Ferrari is making a comeback. The Italian giants have suffered a free fall in recent years. But in these times of hopelessness, a star emerged for Ferrari. A glimmer of hope that could well become her next world champion – Charles Leclerc.

And even team boss Mattia Binotto agrees.

In a recent interview, Ferrari’s boss compared the Monegasse with Ferrari legends such as Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso and Gilles Villeneuve. Binotto described that Leclerc’s winning mentality evokes the same feeling among the Tifosi as the fearless Gilles Villeneuve once did.

Binotto believes this will be even more evident when Leclerc starts winning the world titles.

“I always think of Monza 2019 and his defense against Hamilton or against Max at Silverstone,” said Binotto.

Binotto puts Charles Leclerc in front of teammate Carlos Sainz

Ferrari’s team boss made it clear that Leclerc is ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz in the pecking order in Maranello.

Sainz, who is driving for Ferrari in his first season, is undoubtedly a very talented driver. But whenever Ferrari engages the championship-worthy gears, it will be Leclerc in the driver’s seat.

“We made long-term investments in him because we firmly believe that he will be the next world champion. If Ferrari produces a car that can fight for the title, Charles Leclerc will lead that campaign. “

Carlos Sainz himself recently spoke of the superiority of his teammate’s talent. Sainz described Leclerc not only as faster but also as having a good work ethic that made him “the best in qualifying”.

“There is probably no one who is more talented than Charles on a dry lap in a Ferrari,” said Sainz.

“He’s one of the biggest, if not the biggest, F1 present today.”

It’s no secret that Ferrari has big plans for 2022. Only time will tell how that affects the team.
