Ferrari has announced its new CEO to replace Louis Camilleri, with Benedetto Vigna joining the role.
Camilleri suddenly left the Italian giant last December, shortly before the last race of the 2020 Formula 1 season in Abu Dhabi.
After almost two and a half years in office, following the death of his predecessor Sergio Marchionne, Camilleri retired with immediate effect for personal reasons.
Since then, Ferrari has taken the time to find a successor, with Chairman John Elkann serving as interim CEO.
But now they have chosen Vigna, a 52 year old who comes from outside Maranello and on 1st the company’s largest and most profitable operational business in 2020.
“It is a special honor to come to Ferrari as CEO and I do so with equal enthusiasm and responsibility,” said Vigna.
“Excitement about the great opportunities there are to be seized. And with a deep sense of responsibility towards the exceptional achievements and skills of the men and women at Ferrari, towards all of the company’s stakeholders and everyone around the world for whom Ferrari is such a unique passion. “
Benedetto Vigna will become Ferrari’s new Chief Executive Officer on September 1st.
He commented: “It is a special honor to come to Ferrari as CEO and I do so with equal enthusiasm and responsibility.”

Elkann, Ferrari’s CEO, added: “We are delighted to welcome Benedetto Vigna as our new Ferrari CEO. His deep understanding of the technologies that are driving much of the change in our industry and his proven skills in innovation, business building and leadership will further strengthen Ferrari and its unique history of passion and achievement in the exciting era ahead. “
Vigna is an Italian citizen with extensive international experience working with some of the world’s leading technology companies and graduated with honors from the University of Pisa in Physics.
Ferrari says Vigna’s priority in his role as CEO will be to ensure that Ferrari continues to build on its leadership position as the creator of the most beautiful and technically advanced cars in the world.
They added, “His unique knowledge, acquired over 26 years at the heart of the semiconductor industry that is rapidly changing the automotive sector, will accelerate Ferrari’s ability to lead the way in applying next-generation technologies.”
Vigna’s appointment comes at a time when Ferrari’s Formula 1 fortunes are on the rise after a dismal 2020 season.
Charles Leclerc has taken pole position in the last two races and Scuderia is third in the Constructors’ Championship, two points ahead of McLaren.
