Ferrari announces the start dates for the team and car for the 2021 F1 season

Ferrari reveals team and car launch dates for 2021

After the first launch of the new car for the 2021 season on Friday morning, Ferrari announced that there would be two launch events in the weeks leading up to the new season.

Ferrari F1 boss Mattia Binotto announced in December that the team plans to split its launch events in 2021 and hold an event for the team and a separate event to unveil the car.

These dates have now been set for February 26th and March 10th, respectively. The first look at the car comes just two days before the start of testing in Bahrain.

This makes Ferrari the sixth team to announce their starting plans before the new season. Red Bull, Alpine, Aston Martin and Haas are the only teams to announce dates.

Ferrari accompanied the announcement with a short video of the fire at its plant in Maranello.

Shortly before the fire, Binotto spoke to the entire Ferrari team, with the majority of the members joining in to follow the event via video call.

“Our 2021 season starts here,” said Binotto. “We can expect many challenges along the way and are determined to do better.

“The car has been improved in all areas where developments are allowed.

“We have to work determined and focused and be aware of where we have been and where we are going.”

Ferrari is entering the 2021 season looking to bounce back from its worst season in 40 years after falling to sixth place in last year’s championship and only scoring three podiums.

The team was badly hit after an FIA investigation of its engine in 2019. The resulting guidelines resulted in a dramatic drop in performance.

Ferrari will start with a revised driver line-up in 2021 after Carlos Sainz replaces four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel.

Sainz has already done extensive races for the team in his simulator and recently tested his 2018 spec car at Fiorano, but will not get a first run on the new car until the start of pre-season testing.

The Ferrari SF21 will complete its first extended run on March 12th when testing begins in Bahrain.
