With only 12 races remaining in the 2021 season, the teams have already had a look at the 2022 season. The next year would appear to level the playing field; Everyone will take time to get used to new regulations and a brand new car. But the two-time world champion Fernando Alonso does not believe in it.

The Spaniard goes cautiously into the next season with Alpine, as the new era does not necessarily mean new results. “I think there is no guarantee and no feeling that you can basically put the future on any team.”
Alonso is not very confident that the sport will take a new turn as he believes the dominant teams will continue to dominate.

Alonso commented, “What you will see next year, in the first couple of races or in the first year of these regulations, after all, you will see the same result for four or five years, we’ve seen that. A team that is dominant at the beginning of a set of rules; They seem to hold onto this advantage for years.
“Everything is getting closer and closer, but the same one wins.”
Twenty years in the sport, Alonso’s experience gives weight to his predictions. When most teams start developing their 2022 cars, will the idea of justice remain out of reach?
Fernando Alonso on the 2022 season
Alonso believes the coming season will be better for the younger drivers. “Next year, especially for the younger drivers, it will be very interesting to see how they determine their future, because no team can guarantee a good performance.”
The Alpine driver also spent time with the team when it was Renault. As a result, he knows that the team can adapt to the cost cap and new regulations relatively smoothly. “I think this team has always been clever at interpreting rules, has always fought. It’s not the team that has spent a lot of money in Formula 1 in the past. “

The FIA introduced these new regulations to reduce the benefit that top teams have for financial reasons. Teams like Ferrari, Mercedes and Red Bull certainly have the better car compared to teams like Haas or Alfa Romeo. Looking ahead, Alonso concluded: “I think there is a chance to fill the void but there are no guarantees.”
Will the 2022 season write a different story for the sport or will we see the top teams stay on top anyway?
