The German rookie won the F2 championship last year and is making his F1 debut with the American team. It’s not a full season yet, and talks about the 22-year-old’s exit are already making the rounds. Steiner hopes, however, that Mick will stay with the team for the coming season.

In a column for The Race, Steiner said, “I’m as confident as possible that Mick will be with us next year. Mick is under contract with Ferrari and we will have a Ferrari driver. If it’s not Mick, fine, they have a few other good ones.

“It would be ideal if Mick stick with it and I’m pretty sure that it will be like that too,” concluded the Haas boss.

What options does Steiner have if Mick leaves?

If the German driver decides to part with Haas, Steiner has a few options that he can take away from the F2 championship. Drivers like Callum Illot, Robert Shwartzman and Marcus Armstrong are all top candidates to get a seat in the top Steiner team in the coming season.

Illott is Ferrari’s official test driver and could make his F1 debut with Haas. The Scuderia young drivers Shwartzman and Armstrong are now competing in Formula 2.

While the Russian is third with 91 points, Armstrong from New Zealand is 14th with just 24 points. Regardless, both drivers have the potential to replace Mick and partner with Nikita Mazepin.
