F1 has reportedly asked teams to unveil their 2022 cars in “provisional liveries” and keep the official liveries a secret until the season opener in Bahrain.

According to Motorsports Italy, teams have also been asked to field their cars with provisional liveries at Barcelona during pre-season testing behind closed doors.

F1 has endeavored to ensure fans and media learn as little as possible about the new generation of cars ahead of the season opener in Bahrain. The reason for this is to draw as much attention to the season opener as possible by giving away very little beforehand.

Unlike previous years, this season’s pre-season tests in Barcelona will be held under closed doors, without fans or media being admitted. Instead, an official summary of each test day is made available to the press.

In addition, only three days of testing will take place at the Catalunya circuit in Barcelona. The remaining three will be held at the Sakhir International Circuit in Bahrain, which will be broadcast live.

The new sweeping aerodynamic regulations aim to create cars that allow for closer racing. It will potentially solve one of the biggest issues fans have had with the sport in recent years – organic overtaking. F1 hopes to host more entertaining races with the new generation cars.

Ferrari’s F1 2022 livery will reportedly continue to feature “dark purple”.

For their 1000th F1 race at the 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix at Mugello, Ferrari unveiled a retro livery that featured a darker shade of purple on the rear of the car. Since then, the Scuderia has included the color scheme in their official livery.

According to Motorsport Italy, Ferrari’s 2022 challenger, the SF22, will also feature a crimson red on the rear of the car. However, Maranello is said to be launching the car in a “matt red” livery on February 17, in line with Formula 1’s request not to unveil the official liveries before the Bahrain Grand Prix weekend in March .

After two difficult seasons in midfield, Ferrari are hoping to return to the top of the grid in 2022. With the youngest driver line-up in the team’s history, Maranello hopes to regularly challenge for wins and podiums this season.
