Sometimes it’s hard to remember that Formula 1 drivers are people. The stresses the cars put on their bodies at more than 200 mph, 23 race weekends away from home, the weight restrictions, the diet, the diet, the extensive workout routines – all on the way to becoming the best racing driver of the world Planets.
However, some of the drivers have shown that when it comes to kicking back and putting your feet up after a busy day at the office, they are very much like us, with little joys like saying hello to the dog or avoiding unpacking suitcases.
Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, known for his strict plant-based diet and fitness, even admitted that he will drink a little when he returns to Monaco.
In an interview with Formula 1, the seven-time world champion gave the fans a little insight into his routine after the race.
“Usually making music, working up a sweat,” he explained.
“I usually order soup, minestrone soup, it used to be my favorite soup – but you have just changed chefs, I don’t understand.

“Then I’ll probably turn on my heating because I turned it off when I was leaving and it gets very cold in my house.”
Norris’ teammate Daniel Ricciardo had a similar reaction.
“Unpack my suitcase,” said the Australian.
“And when I say ‘unpack,’ I just toss everything in the wash. It’s like we’re usually out and about for a while, so it’s like a little cleaning.
“Then it’s literally like probably ordering some food and sitting on the couch and getting into the next series of bings.”
Aston Martin’s Sebastian Vettel remains a family man. “I just hug my kids and my wife … and the dog has to cuddle the dog!”
In addition to Vettel, compatriot Mick Schumacher simply replied: “Pet my dog”.
Unsurprisingly, after tough racing weekends with heavy pressure, many drivers admitted that sleep was on the menu. Antonio Giovinazzi simply said “sleep” and Esteban Ocon from Alpine agreed.
“The first thing I do when I get home is sleep!” he laughed.
“I think that’s what we’re not doing enough of and I need a lot of it.”
Williams’ George Russell also weighed in, “It is always an amazing feeling to get into your own bed, there is nothing like it.”
An ever enthusiastic Kimi Raikkonen explained: “It is usually on a Sunday evening. When the children are awake, I see them. And the woman.”
“Kick your feet on the couch, maybe open a beer or pour me a glass of wine,” explained Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll.
“Throw on a movie, bring some friends over and just drop out of the race.”
Valtteri Bottas, a man with a few words, kept it clear with his answer.
“Open a beer,” said the Finn with an ironic smile.
