“Carlos Sainz…Can't Be Cheap”: Red Bull Kingpin Marko Claps Back at Ferrari F1 Budget Claims

Red Bull is currently looking like the fastest car on the grid this season. The Austrian team has already brought their first major upgrade to the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix which has taken them slightly ahead of Ferrari in terms of performance. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko mentioned that every upgrade that the team will bring will be crucial in minimizing the weight of the car.

But it would be difficult for teams to bring upgrades this frequently in the budget cap era. Marko revealed that the team is in a not-so-different position than Ferrari in their budget cap limit.

Marko mentioned the team has planned all the upgrades that they will bring to this season very well. He revealed by bringing the upgrade so early this season has not put them on a back foot as compared to their rivals.

“I don’t think so. We plan our updates in such a way that we always lose weight with each update because unfortunately we still haven’t reached the minimum weight. And we won’t quite reach it with the next update either,” said Helmut.

“I don’t think we are in a significantly different position to Ferrari in this regard. Especially since I wonder what effect it has on them that Carlos Sainz has already crashed the car several times. That can’t be cheap,” said the Red Bull advisor.

It is fascinating to see that Marko never misses the opportunity to take a dig at his rival. This time he has taken a dig at Carlos Sainz for his 2 successive retirements and constant crashes in 2022. He also gave a prompt reply to Binotto’s claims of stopping the Austrian team’s development.

“But I also think that at some point Red Bull will have to stop developing, otherwise it would not explain how they do it with the budget cap. We monitor the changes that Red Bull brings to each race & make an estimate of the costs: so far they have spent more than us,” said Mattia.
