The waving of the checkered flag avoided the possibility of a life-threatening situation. By the time the race came to an end, the cars crossing the line were terrifyingly close to the center line that was waving the flag on the track.

The leading cars battled for position on the last lap, which led to the end. The winner Robin Frijns almost collided with the official while crossing the finish line.
A narrow mistake at Le Mans
Robin Frijns was defending his position against Tom Blomqvist as he crossed the finish line. In front of him were cars slowing to avoid an extra lap and moving sideways. So Frijns knew that the finish line was close to them.
This accelerated the pace. Frijns commented on the incident: “Basically the stern came, looked to the right and then I turned hard to the left because I saw the man with the checkered flag standing there. If I hit the guy, he would be dead. “

The Dutchman added that the distance between his car and the officer was “about half a meter or so”.
Bumpy race for Robin Frijns
The Dutchman’s race was not easy. He seemed to have the race under control at first, but a broken airlift soon became a hurdle. In the final moments of the race, he took the lead after the sister car broke down.
Yifei Ye handed the race over to Frijns on the final lap because his car was suspected of having electrical problems.

Describing the moment, Frijns added: “Right now I feel kind of strange leading three quarters of the race and then losing it to problems. Then I got it back on the last lap, so of course I’m happy, I also feel strange that you want to win at a pure pace, which I think we should have done if it hadn’t been for the problems. “

He concluded by saying that it could have been a one-two for the team. “To see your sister car break down on the last lap is painful for the team. Mainly because I think the team was spot on with its one-two during the entire race. So we should have finished the one-two. “
