Vettel taps his hat on the wall of the Aston Martin mine: "Great decisions" in Monaco

Sebastian Vettel scored his first points as an Aston Martin driver after finishing fifth on the streets of Monaco. The four-time world champion is extremely pleased with what he calls a “great result”. It pushes Aston Martin ahead of Alpine and AlphaTauri.

Unlike his former rival Lewis Hamilton, Aston Martin chose to keep Vettel on the track for a long first stint. In his interview with Sky Sports after the race, the German driver welcomed this strategy.

“It was a great result for us. We can be happy to have two cars in the points. Great decisions on the pit wall and a good pace in the car when it matters, and that made all the difference today. The tires weren’t more fresh But I was still able to drive faster than before and be a bit faster on the next lap, and that made the difference, “said Vettel.

Fight with Gasly

Vettel came out of the box when Pierre Gasly came around the first corner. The two had a bit of a fight up the hill, but Vettel managed to come out on top. The German speaks through these moments.

“The pit stop was just good enough. We had to wait a bit, but it was very, very tight when Pierre came out. I didn’t see him at first, but I knew he was there and then it was a drag race.” he added.

“At some point he had to withdraw. It was tight, but it worked. As I said, it’s great for us.”
