There have been numerous rivalries in the history of F1, perhaps the most famous and indeed the most intense which centered around two F1 legends, namely Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. The duo not only had pretty heated battles on the track, but also off-track battles. However, this level of feud can never be seen again. At least Sebastian Vettel thinks. The German driver assumes that times have changed and the drivers are far more respectful and mature than their colleagues from the past.

Vettel compares the rivalries of the old with the more modern and sees a big difference. He relates this development of rivalries to the progress of the modern world.
Speaking at the press conference before the race at Imola, the Aston Martin driver said: “It was a different time. Nowadays the whole world has matured even if you have different interests and opinions.

“I think we grew up as human beings to be able to talk to each other despite different views on certain things.”
SUBMERGED DEPTH
The fights on the track have stayed the same, but the off-track rivalries have disappeared, claims Sebastian Vettel
The four-time world champion went on to his previous points and said: “Back then there was this intensity just because people weren’t as tolerant as they are today and probably not as mature. So there was also a lot of bitterness and hatred.
“We have come a long way since then not to let these intense battles go by the wayside. But on the track the fighting is still very intense. “
Vettel’s statements shed a good light on the recent rivalry that seems to be developing between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton.

The duo pushed each other up to the turning point on the track. That being said, there was always a lot of respect between Max and Lewis. However, there are some who believe this may change soon.

Even so, the bitterness between two riders is unlikely to reach Prost and Senna levels. Rather, the climax would be closer to the tension that reigned during the rivalry between Hamilton and Rosberg.
Regardless of what happens in the future, fans can be grateful that two drivers compete against each other week after week. We finally have a race for the title in our hands. Who will be ahead? Only time can tell.
