After a colorless year at Ferrari, Sebastian Vettel switched to the newly founded Aston Martin. The goal of the team and owner Lawrence Stroll is to become championship winners in three to five years. Where Racing Point did very well last year, Aston Martin is now embroiled in a midfield battle. The four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel does not have it easy either and is pointless in sixteenth place.

The German has not scored a single point in the last seven races in which team-mate Lance Stroll is currently on five points. In many races everything is still open, but it is important that Vettel finds his feet. He said at Speedweek that there was progress.

Goes up and down
It’s the midfield fight that’s so interesting because it goes in all directions. With the midfield so close together, performance depends in part on the route it’s driven on. In practice, for example, AlphaTauri was stronger than Aston Martin, where on paper this team should be the better.
Vettel: “There are a lot of cars within a few tenths of each other and if you manage to do everything right, you get on quickly.” In other words, if Aston Martin bring just a little more development, the team could suddenly find themselves at the top of the midfield. The biggest problem right now, according to Vettel, is the lack of downforce compared to other cars, but with Monaco on the horizon, he’s nuanced that right.
“Monte Carlo has its own laws, so maybe we can make more of it,” said Vettel in conclusion.
