Sebastian Vettel has got used to fighting for victories and championships. He spent over a decade dominating Formula 1, racking up 53 wins and four world championships on his way to becoming the third most successful driver of all time.

Vettel is a man who loves to win, and after a dismal last year at Ferrari, he is now in the midst of a new challenge at Aston Martin Racing. Aston Martin Cognizant’s Formula 1 team is aiming for the top step of the podium, but rule changes early in the 2021 season have resulted in its car’s performance being slower than the competition.

At the end of 2020, Aston Martin signed the German ace to lead the Formula 1 starting field. Despite some outstanding performances, Vettel and Aston Martin are in midfield, fighting for a few points and taking advantage when the leaders make mistakes.

With a new car and a new set of rules for the 2022 season, the British team Mercedes GP and Red Bull Racing want to challenge for regular victories and championships.

Not happy with getting into the top 10, Seb recently told Sky Sports that he doesn’t enjoy it and that he doesn’t drive for less than wins in Formula 1.

As quoted by PlanetF1, Vettel explained: “The satisfaction when you cross the finish line just doesn’t feel the same. Once you’ve won a race and been on the podium, you get this massive boost from the fans and, to a certain extent, confirmation. Now you drive and you get an eighth or tenth place and you feel like you did a really good race, no mistakes, but it’s the tenth, ninth, eighth, that’s not really what I’m here for.

“Maybe I’m spoiled, I’ve got used to winning and being at the top.”

It is certain that all drivers in Formula 1 are racing for victory, but when you have a driver who is as successful as Vettel, it can be difficult to maintain motivation and mental discipline if you are winning regularly in order to finish then eighth, ninth, or tenth place.

Building a winning racing team is a big challenge, but Sebastian Vettel believes he is in the right place

If Aston Martin’s plan goes smoothly, Vettel won’t stay in midfield for long. The aim is to win races and championships over the next few years on the way to establishing Aston Martin as the top team in Formula 1.

The new Formula 1 regulations changes in 2022 could help Aston Martin close the performance gap with the front runners, but it’s important to remember that the rules apply to every team on the grid. They will all try to challenge the regular winners and move forward.

About his move to Aston Martin and the plans of the team, Vettel said: “Lawrence” [Stroll] is very serious and the team is on the right track. Everything that is happening is very, very promising. Setting a schedule is always difficult because everyone sets the same schedule – we all want to get back to winning ways, be it McLaren, Alpine, there are currently two teams fighting at the top and you, “I have Ferrari.

“I always believe that there is a race to be won. Otherwise I wouldn’t start anymore. But of course, if you look at the statistics, if you start 12th or eighth or 10th, then you are literally not in pole position.

“I have no regrets and I think that’s the main thing.”

The ex-world champion is expected to end his Formula 1 career at Aston Martin. Vettel is still looking for his fifth championship and sees Aston Martin as an excellent option to achieve that goal. It remains to be seen whether he will succeed, but he retains a strong desire to win and be at the top, a trait every champion needs.
