Ricciardo was an unfortunate victim of the first corner carnage in Hungary after catching up and spinning in the hand-to-hand battle between Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll and Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari.
While the Australian was able to continue, the damage to his McLaren MCL35M hampered his recovery efforts and left him out of the points.
Afterward, Ricciardo said that luckily he would have been eliminated on the spot as the damage affected his race.
“I know that sounds negative, but because you have a damage, your race is so endangered,” said a frustrated Ricciardo.
