Aston Martin has confirmed that the new F1 factory plan is 12 months behind schedule and is set to open in August 2022.
The former Racing Point team was renamed Aston Martin for 2021, with Sebastian Vettel and Lance Stroll making up their driver line-up.
It was never planned to be able to move into the new facilities in time for the start of the coming season, but originally it was hoped that this could happen during the summer break.
However, when the global health pandemic spread in spring 2020, it quickly became apparent that even this timeframe had become unrealistic.
Therefore, the intention was August 2022, as stated by team boss Otmar Szafnauer last summer, and that remains the case.
“[The plans are] online, but the line and timing have changed due to Covid, ”said Szafnauer of the development that will take place on the site of the original factory across from the Silverstone circuit.
“It’s still the original plan. We need to make sure we are the right size.
“We are making progress. We are in the drafting phase now and all departments are getting their contributions to make sure it is as efficient as possible. It is online and is scheduled to open and launch in August 2022. “

Szafnauer also announced that plans for the plant have not changed significantly due to the introduction of the budget cap for Formula 1 this year. Aston Martin will be keeping an eye on costs, however, as the spending limit will be lowered by another $ 5 I’m next year.
“I am sure that with the budget cap we are all now learning what compromises we are making in order to stay under the budget,” said Szafnauer, quoted by the Formula 1 website.
“The plan for the factory is that the factory will be scalable if for any reason the budget cap changes in the future. But not much has changed due to the budget cap. “
Previously it was reported that the new factory “will not be extravagant, but functional”.
The aim of the investment was “to help the team achieve their longer-term ambitions, retain and attract talented people, and ultimately take the team to the next level”.
Team owner Lawrence Stroll recently said the next level is to compete for regular race wins and ultimately world championships.
