LONDON (Reuters) – Aston Martin expects four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel to continue racing in Formula 1 next season, and an announcement is imminent, team owner Lawrence Stroll said.

“We are enthusiastic about Sebastian. It is our firm intention to continue with him for the next year and beyond, ”said the Canadian billionaire.

Aston Martin said Tuesday that they had started building their new F1 factory in Silverstone.

Vettel, who won his titles with Red Bull from 2010-13, joined the Ferrari team at the end of last year and the German turned 34 in July.

Vettel is twelfth in the championship after 14 races, with Stroll’s son Lance one place behind.

The German finished second in Azerbaijan and was disqualified from second in Hungary because his car ran out of fuel after the race.

He is also increasingly open about environmental issues and climate change.

Stroll said Vettel’s personal views “did not affect our strong and ongoing desire that he continue to drive for us in Formula One”.
