McLaren is downsizing the legendary F1 motorhome

McLaren to downsize its iconic F1 motorhome

The three-story Brand Center has been a centerpiece of the F1 paddock since it first appeared in 2007.

On the front there was a 13.5 m long solar glass facade with kitchens, catering areas, meeting rooms, driver rooms and offices for marketing and media employees.

As part of F1 moving into a more sustainable future, the enormous logistics involved in moving RVs by trucks across Europe has come into the spotlight.

McLaren decided to downsize the famous RV as the teams look at ways to cut travel costs and the carbon footprint of everything they do.

Instead of starting from scratch with a completely new structure, the team will renovate and configure the Brand Center for returns in a greatly reduced size.

The new motorhome, which is being renamed, will be seen for the first time at the Monaco Grand Prix. Only eight trucks are needed for the transport, not the 17 that the Brand Center needs.

McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl said sustainability is the main reason for the decision to change his motorhome.

“I don’t want to go into too much detail, but one focus was clearly on having a solution for McLaren in the future that is much more sustainable in terms of transportation, furnishing and furnishing than how to use it,” he said. The clear goal was a more sustainable solution. “

Before the revamped motorhome returns, McLaren uses an interim solution first unveiled at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

The move at McLaren is the result of a push by Formula 1 to move away from the extravagant motorhomes that had become the norm.

Last year, F1 Motorsports Managing Director Ross Brawn suggested that it made no sense for F1 to continue transporting RVs across Europe.

“We have our gin palaces with all the trucks that are needed for transportation,” he said. “So in the future we want to move to a mobile home or a hotel facility that could have far less impact on logistics and transport than it does now.”

Seidl said he wasn’t against the idea of teams reducing things – or just using permanent structures installed on rails.

“We would be very supportive of such a solution in the future,” he said. “I see this more as a medium-term issue, but the discussion about it is not over yet.”
