Lewis Hamilton continues his fight back in the championship and is the fastest off FP3 with a 1.16.826. Max Verstappen finished second, Valtteri Bottas third before a narrow qualifying in the afternoon.
Mick Schumacher made a red flag after losing control of his Haas in the second half of the session. Fortunately it was okay, but it seems unlikely that the car is ready for qualifying and there is a high possibility that there is a transmission failure.
Other than that, there was little drama to report, but once again Daniel Ricciardo seemed unable to get his McLaren to work.
He will need a good qualifying and a good race tomorrow to stop the questions and doubts from the media and fans as to why he is so much slower than his teammate Lando Norris, who finished the session in P6.
Ferrari had another strong session with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz who both went well. Leclerc finished P5 and Sainz had an impressive P4.
After the damage from Schumacher’s fall, the drivers came for one final run on the soft tire to complete their qualifying simulations.
Antonio Giovinazzi and Lance Stroll collided in the box. The Alfa Romeo was dispatched and its front wing cut off the rear tire of the Aston Martin. Both continued on their way but expect a punishment for the Italian team.
The first three were all within a tenth, which prepared this afternoon’s qualifying well.
