Vettel to replace Hamilton
One of the names circulating at Mercedes as a possible successor to Hamilton is that of Sebastian Vettel. Ralf Schumacher at Sky Sports believes the German driver would jump at the chance with both hands. “Of course, if he gets the chance to join this team, he would take it 100 percent,” he said.
According to Schumacher, it helps that Vettel has gained experience with the Mercedes engine at Aston Martin, which is also conceptually similar to the Mercedes. Even the departure of Otmar Szafnauer at Aston Martin does not help the former formula driver. “He and Vettel were a good team,” he said.
Hamilton hasn’t left yet
Whether or not Vettel is a real option for Mercedes, the fact is Hamilton is still officially a Mercedes driver in 2022. Whether Hamilton actually retires early remains to be seen. Should that be the case, Vettel is certainly not the only option for Mercedes. “Toto Wolff has some other talents behind him.”
