Former Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone wants Sebastian Vettel to thrive and return to his old self. The Brit believes Aston Martin is the right environment for the four-time F1 world champion to do so after some difficult years at Ferrari.
Ecclestone says one of the main reasons Vettel failed to repeat his success with Red Bull at Scuderia is the lack of support from the latter. About the German’s struggles in Maranello in recent years and his move to Aston Martin in an interview with f1-insider.com, Ecclestone said:
“The best he can do, and the best anyone can do, is to forget his years at Ferrari.” “What a lot of people may not know is that he’s a very sensitive guy. He loves to be loved. That didn’t happen to him at Ferrari. ”“ He wasn’t disappointed with life or didn’t want to be the old hag. He just had to get back on a suitable team. I am sure he is on the right team now that they are taking care of him. There he has the prerequisite to show the old hag again. And I believe that he will be successful there. ”
After Sebastian Vettel had dominated Formula 1 with Red Bull for four years, he switched to Ferrari in 2015, hoping to emulate his close friend and mentor Michael Schumacher.
While their partnership was promising at first, it ultimately resulted in no championship success. Vettel started with strong performances in both 2017 and 2018 and led Lewis Hamilton in the first half of those seasons.
However, the intensive development of Mercedes, combined with decisive mistakes by Vettel, as in Germany in 2018, meant that Ferrari’s championship fight often stalled in the middle of the season.

Sebastian Vettel also suffered disgrace when newcomer Charles Leclerc left the four-time F1 world champion behind in the same car. After two difficult seasons in 2019 and 2020, Ferrari decided to replace him with Carlos Sainz Jr. for the 2021 season.
The outgoing Aston Martin team boss praises the “brilliant” Sebastian Vettel for his integrity and work ethic
Former Aston Martin team boss Otmar Szafnauer has praised Sebastian Vettel for his work ethic and hard work.
In an interview with crash.net, Szafnauer said:
“He was brilliant. He’s such a man of integrity, he works hard, and a great work ethic leaves no stone unturned. ”“ The engineers enjoy working with him, the mechanics love him as a person. He’s just a real guy. And that’s a long way in life. ”
After a change in the regulations for the 2021 season had seriously affected Aston Martin’s performance, Sebastian Vettel’s hopes of fighting at the top of midfield this season were not fulfilled.
However, the veteran F1 driver used his vast experience to take advantage of opportunities throughout the season and achieve two top 3 finishes for the Silverstone-based team.
Regarding his disqualification in Hungary, Szafnauer said:
“Even though the result didn’t count through no fault of my own, I found that he drove a brilliant race in Budapest and tried and tried and tried to overtake Ocon.” It’s just so hard to overtake in Budapest unless you have a massive, massive pace advantage that we didn’t have. ”I love to see

Otmar Szafnauer says Sebastian Vettel would easily have “gone into the distance” if Aston Martin had allowed him a quick pit stop. Vettel got stuck behind Esteban Ocons Alpine and eventually finished P2 to take the team’s second podium of the season. However, the result was later taken away after the FIA delegates could not find enough fuel in the car for testing purposes.
