
Racing Point became Aston Martin in the 2021 season. The Formula 1 fraternity was excited about this transition as it brought an iconic name back to the grid, and after finishing fourth overall in 2020, the Silverstone-based team was looking forward to the 2021 season.

It didn’t turn out as they’d hoped, however. The British team suffered a crash because instead of improving their performance on the track, they failed to achieve decisive results. The team had a slightly better season the year before than it did in 2021.

A comparison of Racing Point / Aston Martin in 2020 and 2021
In 2020 Racing Point was referred to as the “Pink Mercedes” because it had many similarities with the W11. However, it brought decisive results as they achieved one victory, four podiums, one pole position. But they also suffered six retirements.

At the end of the season, the Silverstone team had 195 points on their account and thus finished fourth in the overall standings.

In 2021, many assumed that they would improve and bring more wins and results. The opposite was the case, however, as they only managed one podium and finished the season with 77 points, finishing seventh overall.

After a disappointing last year at Ferrari, the German driver hoped to return the favor in the British squad. Vettel, on the other hand, did not achieve the desired effect.

One of the highlights of his 2021 season was a podium finish at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in which we finished second. Sebastian finished the season with only 43 points and thus finished twelfth in the drivers’ standings.
