Aston Martin’s first Formula 1 car in six decades is called the AMR21. This is evident from a teaser video that the F1 team released on Wednesday.

The name for the 2021 car, which will be launched on March 3, is a departure from the 1960 DBR5 car named after then-team owner David Brown.

Formerly known as Racing Point, the team said work on the AMR21 began as early as August 2020, with 50% of the 2020 Racing Point’s DNA transferred to this machine. Aston Martin will also take on sponsor BWT from its Racing Point days – but not as the title sponsor, with the American IT company Cognizant assuming this role.

Technical Director Andrew Green stated that despite the large transfer of parts from last year’s car to this one, significant work was still being done on the aerodynamics of the car in 2021. “All aero components are designed by the aerodynamics team using Catia CAD. These models are then imported into CFD [computational fluid dynamics]processed and analyzed the results, “he said.

“We as a team also develop the CFD, so in the end it is only as good as we can make it. It is highly optimized for working with Formula 1 vehicles and becomes more and more powerful in the course of development. “

The team’s production manager, Bob Halliwell, added that Aston Martin is motivated to continually improve its car thanks to the new branding and investment.

“I think, it [Aston Martin’s arrival] made everyone their game and their attention to detail, the desire to always improve, ”he said. “We’re hiring more technical staff so we can build and develop in all areas of the company, but in a controlled manner.

“With Aston Martin behind us, we can move forward and fix these things. It’s been a big change for us and it’s very exciting. “

The four-time champion Sebastian Vettel and the Canadian Lance Stroll will take over the wheel of the AMR21 this season. Work on upgrades and the team’s car for 2022 will start in January.
